Mayo River State Park

Located in Rockingham County, Mayo River State Park offers various recreational opportunities at the main Mayo Mountain access and at multiple accesses along the Mayo River.

At the main access, visitors can enjoy hiking trails, fishing ponds, a picnic area and shelter, and a group campsite. Four accesses — Deshazo Mill, Anglin Mill, Hickory Creek, and Mayodan — allow entry to the river, home to rich wildlife and Class II rapids. Deshazo Mill also features a picturesque waterfall on Fall Creek.

Gioia dell’Amore Cellars at Autumn Creek Vineyards

Nestled in the beautiful, rolling countryside of Rockingham County, Gioia dell’Amore Cellars at Autumn Creek Vineyards is comprised of 100 acres of farmland, including 17 acres of grape vines. They grow Pinot Gris, Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, and Vidal Blanc.  Two fantastic cabins and an inviting Tasting Room were built in the 2000s with the large Pavilion added in 2011 for weddings and special events.  Now with several additional varieties of grapes and 11 award-winning wines, Gioia dell’Amore Cellars is truly unmatched.

The four-season Tasting Room offers covered porches with rocking chairs, wrap-around decks with views of the pond and vineyard, an elegant courtyard and Koi pond, and cozy fireplace seating.  Come enjoy a glass or wine with a friend or a bottle with several, it’s the perfect gathering place year-round!

Gia Distillery & Nonno Nino Winery

Gia Distillery, Inc. is a small boutique distillery located in a train station built in 1895 in the small town of Madison, NC.

One of the owners grew up in Sicily and the other comes from Asheville, NC.  Both have been making wine and beer for the last 40 years and have parlayed that experience now into distilling where they are now able to add their hand-crafted touch.

Everything from crushing the grapes/grain, fermentation, distilling and bottling is done by hand, with no automated systems.  This extra work and effort shine through with an exceptional set of products that offer quality and perfection.
